| About the Hakomi Institute of San Francisco | |
The Hakomi Institute of San Francisco was founded in 1987 by Richard A. Heckler, Ph.D. to train local healthcare and other professionals in the Hakomi Method of body-centered psychotherapy. Since then, the Institute has become a recognized training institute for licensed psychotherapists, allied health workers, clergy, civic leaders, interns and educators. Therapists are Certified to practice the Hakomi Method through the Institute, and its graduates have gone on to teach in Masters and Doctoral level counseling programs, create successful private practices, and open new avenues of somatically-oriented investigation in the fields of anthropology, education, business and financial awareness, spirituality, as well as psychology. |
The Institute offers a Comprehensive (two-year) Training, which teaches the method in its entirety, and a five-Month Seminar for licensed professionals in some of the theory and technique of the Method. In addition, the Institute offers workshops and seminars on particular topics related to the practice of psychotherapy, including "A Somatic Approach to Couples and Family Therapy", "Character Theory", "Movement and Hakomi Therapy", as well as working with issues of spirituality, and advanced supervision tutorials. CEU units are available. |
